Bob trying to understand their questions |
In chapter 17, Mr. Gilmer has just finished his direct examination on Bob Ewell, it was time for Atticus to begin his cross examination on him. Bob Ewell is known as the father that lives by the dump with his children, and that they are always dirty. On the day of the trial, Bob Ewell came very clean and dressed for the accastion, it was his chance to be in the spotlight in front of the whole town. When Atticus began he asked Bob if he ever called a doctor for his daughter Mayella, He replied that he didn't want to pay $5.00 on a doctor. That comes to show that Bob is a terrible father, he didn't want to spent money on his daughter were he can spend a whole check on alcohol. Atticus then asked if he remembered were her injuries were, he replied and said that her injuries were on the right side. The interesting moment was when Atticus asked Bob if he can read and write, in the last testominty with Heck Tate they revealed that Mayella's were on her right side. That would mean that a left handed person was the one that beat Mayella, Atticus asked if Bob can write his name for him. Bob said yes to impress everyone in the courtroom, Atticus gave him a envelope and a pen. Bob began to write with his left hand and the courtroom now knew that he was left handed.

Mayella realizing she got exposed |
I personally think that Bob Ewell has been officially exposed, he was definitely the one that beat Mayella. In the chapter that we read today it was revealed that Tom Robinson is crippled on his left arm, from it being torn with a machine for cotton when he was little. There was no possible way that Tom Robinson was any way involved with beating Mayella and raping her, I do kinda feel bad for Mayella. I think that she doesn't want to admit the truth because if she did her father would begin to beat her more at home if she did. I hope that the Jury can figure all of this out and that they don't side with the Ewells. Bob Ewell was definitely the one that beat Mayella, she is just afraid to admit it. Overall, Atticus is a genius for exposing the Ewells with the evidence provided from the case, he basically outsmarted the Ewells and they couldn't keep up. Do you agree? Do you disagree?
What do you think?
Personally, I think that your blog post had great detail and opinions. I also really liked your memes and found them really funny. I do agree with you on when you mentioned that Tom Robinson could definitely not be the person who beat Mayella, because of his left crippled arm. This piece of evidence is what really threw the Ewells off of track after they have presented all of the pieces of evidence trying to claim that it was Tom Robinson who had beat Mayella. I also do agree with your thoughts on how Mayella may actually be forced to lie since it may actually be Bob who has beat her. It has been truly shown from multiple pieces of evidence that Bob is a bad father as he didn't want to spend $5 to call the doctor for his own daughter, but he would spend a whole paycheck just on alcohol. I really enjoyed your blogpost, and again, you had great memes.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Bob IS THE ONE WHO BEAT MAYELLA, because he writes everything with his left, and because Tom has no hand, which is pretty sad, I wonder how painful that was when he lost it. I really wonder what his involvement to the crime was. I also think that Atticus outsmarted them, it was kind of sad how far behind they were. Your blog was really nice I laughed when I saw the picture when Mayella gets exposed, and the picture when Bob gets exposed, they really cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I also think that Bob is the person that beat Mayella. Atticus has done a really nice job setting up his case to show how Bob could have beat Mayella and it is more likely to be him.I like that you went back in to old chapters to talk about something we just read to add on to the post. I think you had a lot of details in your post to add to what we just read. I also like that you added a question at the end to give the person commenting to something to talk about. The memes that you added added to the story and added some humor and your personal opinion which I enjoyed. Overall nice job.
