Mayella is Stressing and Struggling

Mayella, like her father is uneducated and when Atticus called her Miss she thought he was making fun of her. In Mayella´s Cross examination Atticus started out with asking her questions and when he comes to the question of if she has friends or not she got offended again and almost started crying. Atticus continues to question her and she doesnt even notice that he is slowly exposing her and showing tp the whole courtroom that she doesnt know quite what she is talking about. This instils doubt in the jurys minds. Atticus is slowly but surely showing to the whole courtroom that Mayella and Bobs testimony do not match up. By the time Mayella is stressing out she realizes that she has been fooled exactly like her father was. Tom Robinson stands up and accoring to the injuries there is no possible way he could have beaten Mayella, but we still do not know how he does fit into the story and why he was blamed.

I think that is Mayella was educated the trial wouldve went way better for her. This shows again that lack of education is a really bad issue to have because without education you can´t be as successful in life. Also her not having a bad father would help, Atticus has basically proved that Mr.Ewell is the one that beat Mayella. If she would have been more educated she might have been able to catch what Atticus was doing when he was building the case bit by bit asking questions. Because of the lack of overall education knowledge in Maycomb I would assume that not a lot of people in the gallery knew what he was doing. If she would have been more respected and treated well at home she would have known that all Atticus was doing was addressing her politely. Unfortunately this is all out of her control, she can´t control who her father is and the fact that the one he has is not that great. Bobs behavior gives us a glimpse into what her home life is like.

  1. I agree with many of the things that you wrote about in this blog post. Firstly, I agree with the fact of how you talked about Mayella's lack of education. A lack of education truly does not make you as successful in life as opposed to actually having an education. I also do agree with the fact that maybe if Mayella was more educated, she might have been able to catch what Atticus was doing in the cross examination with him building the case little by little. Atticus in my opinion is truly a smart, clever, and good lawyer, because of his plan and tactics. Lastly, I also agree with you on the point that the fact that Mayella is not respected and treated well at home is out of her control, and she can not control who her father is. She is a victim of poverty and ignorance, and it is true that she can not control who her father is or what family she was born into. I almost feel a little sympathy for her. Overall, you had a good blog post, and I agree with most of your opinions.

  2. Good job Isabelle with your blog post,I like how you talked about the lack of education of Mayella. We know that she can't control her behavior, keeps crying.I feel bad that she can't control her life and it's all her dad's fault,it's obvious that Bob beat her up,but Tom is taking the blame which I hate.Overall you did a good job describing every detail like Mayella be offended by easy questions.

  3. I agree with what you said about Atticus exposing Mayella on his cross examination, Atticus was a straight on genius for the way that he slowly built his case up. Atticus was speaking in a comfortable tone until towards the end his tone of voice began to turn serious. I agree with you that Mayella has a lack of education, if she got some education then she would have had a better trail. However, she is basically lying under oath when she enters the witness stand, she should just tell the truth and have Bob arrested, but it's not that easy. She is scared of her father, he beats her and she doesn't want to tell the truth because then he would make her home life even worse. Overall, good blog post.
