I notice that Boo (Arthur) Radley acts a lot like Lennie did in Of Mice and Men. He acts like him because they both have the mindset of a child. Boo is like this because he only interacts with Jem and Scout. We also see this when he asks Scout to walk him home but she makes it look like he is walking her so Ms.Stephanie doesn't gossip about it. In my opinion this was very nice for Scout to do and saved Boo (a "mocking bird") from being "killed." Another scene that protects Boo from being killed is that when Heck Tate insists that Bob fell on his knife even though Boo killed him. Boo wouldn't want all the attention. He is extremely introverted and this must be why he was going to get sent to a mental institution before his father refused.
When Scout gets to Boo's house he goes inside and looks out the window so that she can see what Boo sees all the time when he is locked in the house not socializing with anyone. She gets perspective and puts herself in Boo's "skin" or shoes, as her father Atticus tells her to. The book end off with Atticus reading a book that is a lot like how Boo Radley is and its irontic. The book talk about how there is Stoner's boy and everyone thinks he's trashing the clubhouse but he's not. This is like Boo because everyone thinks he is a terrible person but he's not, he just has a mental illness, but people wouldnt understand that in their time.
First of all, Lennie and Boo are similar since they both a have mental disability but are somewhat different. Lennie doesn't mind being around grown ups, however Boo prefers children's company rather than grown ups. It's great that you compare these two. I like how you added in your post of scenes that protect boo like scout and heck tate. Including, of Scout standing in front of the radley place to see how Boo see's everything, it's great that she is following Atticus's advice of putting yourself in other people's shoes/skin. Overall, great blog post.
ReplyDeleteI tink that you did a good job comparing Lennie and Boo to each other and their mental disabilities. I also think that it was smart of you to explain the different ways that Boo was saved from being "killed" because he is a mocking bird. I also think that you did a good job summarizing how scout looked at the town from Boo's point of view. You also did a good job of including how the book Atticus is reading is ironic and sybolizes Boo in Maycomb. Overall, you did a good job on this blog post.
ReplyDeleteBoo is an interesting character in book.
