Last TKAM Blog Post

Image result for end of tkam memesI notice that Boo (Arthur) Radley acts a lot like Lennie did in Of Mice and Men. He acts like him because they both have the mindset of a child. Boo is like this because he only interacts with Jem and Scout. We also see this when he asks Scout to walk him home but she makes it look like he is walking her so Ms.Stephanie doesn't gossip about it. In my opinion this was very nice for Scout to do and saved Boo (a "mocking bird") from being "killed." Another scene that protects Boo from being killed is that when Heck Tate insists that Bob fell on his knife even though Boo killed him. Boo wouldn't want all the attention. He is extremely introverted and this must be why he was going to get sent to a  mental institution before his father refused.

When Scout gets to Boo's house he goes inside and looks out the window so that she can see what Boo sees all the time when he is locked in the house not socializing with anyone. She gets perspective and puts herself in Boo's "skin" or shoes, as her father Atticus tells her to. The book end off with Atticus reading a book that is a lot like how Boo Radley is and its irontic. The book talk about how there is Stoner's boy and everyone thinks he's trashing the clubhouse but he's not. This is like Boo because everyone thinks he is a terrible person but he's not, he just has a mental illness, but people wouldnt understand that in their time.

Arthur Radley and THe Ending of TKAM

Recently, a lot has happened in TKAM. Scout and Jem were almost killed by Bob Ewell. Bob attempted to murder Jem and Scout because he was too cowardly to try to murder Atticus, so he went after easier targets who couldn't defend themselves. Bob had a swtchblade and could have killed Scout if she hadn't been wearing her ham costume from the pageant. While Mr. Ewell atacked the childrean, Jem broke his arm, and Scout finds out that there was a fourth person undar the tree who saved them. Once they reach the house, Scout finds out that the man who had saved them and carried Jem home was Arthur or Boo Radley. We find out that Heck Tate had switched out the knife that had killed Bob and put a kitchen knife there. Heck Tate knows that if he dosen't cover up the fact that it was Arthur who had save the children then he may as well have killed a mocking bird.

I think that it was very honorable for Heck to switch out the knives and to make up a lie about what happened to Bob. I am surprised that Atticus didn't put the pieces together that it was Arthur who killed Bob not Jem. It also surprised me that Atticus was not only willing to bring Jem to court, but that he wanted to bring him to court. Eventhough it surprised me, I think that it was a good reflection on how good of a father he is. He wanted to prove that Jem had killed Bob out of self-defence and that he had nothing to hide. I think that I might shed a couple tears tommorow at the end of the book. This has been one of my favorite books and I have loved everything about it.

Boo's Personal View

Boo is definity one of our many mockingbirds. People make up rumors about him, even though none of them are true. They never make the time to actually get to know him, and they ridicule him even though he did nothing wrong. Mr. Heck Tate has been trying to help him when he figured out that it was Boo that killed Bob Ewell. Mr. Tate wants to save Boo from all the publicity, because he is the only one in the county that would not want to be so public. Boo would be a mockingbird in this scene, because all he did was save two children and killed a man for it, and the whole town would think he is a hero and bring him angel food cake. A normal person would like the attention and all the food cake, but not Arthur, he doesn't want much attention in the town, all he likes to do is stay inside. Now we know that Arthur actually likes staying inside, because it keeps him from all the attention that he doesn't want.

Before now, we have never seen Boo, but we have been able to get glimpses of what he is like. He was there for everything. When Scout was in the tire, he was there laughing, when Jem touched the house, he was watching them, he left gifts for the children to find in the knothole of the tree, he helped Jem with his pants after they got caught in his fence, he was the shadow that they saw move past them in the window, he put a blanket over the kids the night of the fire, and he saved their lives when they needed him most. Thorout this entire book, Boo has been there the entire time in different ways. It may have been a small shutter flick or a laughter, but he was still there.

I think that Boo is one of my favorite characters, because he is the one that just comes in to save the day, but he doesn't want the attention of all the people. All he wants is to be left alone, and I find that so funny because that reminds me of a lot of people I know, they just don't want to be around people, and I find that really funny. However, now after realizing what Boo is dealing with I can understand why he doesn't want to come out. People have pre decided what he is like, and they have made up in their mind that he is some killer that spies on you. I think that Boo is very relatable in many different ways, but we need to understand that Boo doesn't want to be in the spot light, and if people find out he is a hero, then that could lead to more potential problems for him and for the people of Maycomb.

Boo Radley Blog Post

Scout and Jem are going threw the wood because they went to a pageant and Scout messed up really bad when she missed her part because she fell asleep. She came out at the last minute and she ruined the pageant, she was so embarrassed that she wanted everyone to leave first so she could go last and that way she wouldn't feel embarrassed. On the way home Jem hears something following him and Scout and at first they think it's Jacob a kid who scared them earlier. But no it wasn't him it was Bob Ewell and he meant to do business he tried to kill Scout and Jem.But he failed to because Scout still had her costume on and that saved her life, but Jem had a broken arm.Someone came and took Jem and Scout home were they later realised that Bob Ewell was found dead with a knife in his ribs.

Nathan Radley killed Bob Ewell in self-defense because he wanted to harm Jem and Scout. But everyone thinks Jem killed Bob and thats sounds kind of hard to believe because Jem had a broken arm.And there is no way he would of gotten up and tried tackling a large man and killing him with his own knife.Mr.Tate switch knife's to make it look like Bob killed himself on accident, but again that is hard to believe. We know that Mr.Tate is trying to get Boo Radley out of this and he is trying to convince Atticus that Jem didn't kill Bob,so he did. This is the first time Scout has seen Boo and he is not scared of him anymore.

My reaction of this chapter is insane because Boo Radley killed Bob Ewell and ended up saving Scout and Jem from him because he wanted to kill them.I find cool that Bob died because he's the reason why Tom died.He beat up his daughter and blamed it on Tom,I never expected that Boo Radley a guy who spends his time in his house would kill the most hated person in the book. For the first time after 400 pages we get to see Boo Radley!I never expected him to come  out because I always thought he was one of those characters who people talk of,but never do anything(Like never show up or be part of any event in the book). Are you also surprised  to see Boo Radley come out for the first time?I still don't get why Atticus thinks Jem killed Bob,I find it kind of dumb, but I still respect Atticus it's just that I find it silly.

Finally Meeting Boo

In the last couple of chapters of To Kill a Mockingbird, we finally meet Boo Radley. We find out that he is not the man most people in Maycomb thought he was. He is not a crazy serial killer, but instead, he is a man who saved two children's lives. He has been secretly watching Jem and Scout and keeping them safe, and when Jem and Scout needed him most, he helped them and saved their lives. Boo was definitely not the man that most people in Maycomb thought he was. Boo is an introvert, and because of that, he stays indoors a lot. I understand why he stays indoors. He has a mental disability, and he has the mind of a child, and he is very shy, and that is why he stays indoors so much. I understand Arthur, and I think that it is good that he stays in since he is already so shy and since people would assume things and wouldn't understand him since he has the mind of a child.

For me, Arthur Radley is a hero. He looked after kids who made fun of him and who were afraid of him, and even then, he still looked after them. If I were Arthur, I would forget about them knowing that they are afraid of me. Boo went out into the open to save Jem and Scout. He did something has never done in years, just to save Jem and Scout. To me, Arthur is a hero because he went out of his comfort zone to save Jem and Scout from being killed by Bob. Arthur is also a mockingbird, and for this reason, I feel bad for him. Arthur Radley gets rumors made about him and people assume bad things about him, just because he never leaves his house. Arthur is a very shy person, and I understand why he would want to stay inside, and it is sad that other people in Maycomb don't make the time to understand him  and actually get to know him. It is sad how he is put down by rumors for no reason other than staying inside for most of his live.

TKAM Differences Alike

To summarize the most important event happening so far Jem and Scout went to the pageant. Scout messed up big time in her role as she not only slept through her part, but ruined the most climactic scene in the pageant. On their way back Scout was so embarassed she wouldn't even take off her costume of metal wiring. They waited for everyone to leave and when there was barely anyone left they decided to go and started hearing footsteps. They kept stopping when they stopped and continued when they continued, they just thought that it was. Then finally they were rushed at and Bob Ewell easily twisted Jem's hand until it made a crackling noise he was hurt so bad he was left unconscious on the ground. However Scout in her costume was metal wire painted and he was physically crushing it open and would easily kill Scout and Jem if a 4th person under the tree had not killed Bob and saved them both.
When you are mad in an argument, but do not understand the topic.
Boo Radley saved their lives and Mr. Tate tried to indirectly protect Boo Radley from the publicity yet funnily enough Atticus does not realize this and thinks Jem killed him and is talking all about going to the court get it out in the open and Mr. Tate is trying to hint at what really happened without revealing it as it might make things uncomfortable for Arthur Radley.
Though what I really want to talk about which I found very interesting was the dynamic between Mr. Tate and Atticus. They both have mutual respect for each other and from the way Scout described them they both are extremely stubborn and while Atticus is more calm on his part he is still just as stubborn as Mr. Tate who is stubborn in a more blunt way. When they were arguing they both were sure of themselves and while I agree with Mr. Tate since Atticus did not fully proccess what he was implying it was interesting nonetheless. Though it would of really had a lot more cause for inspection and time if Boo Radley made a comment as he was on that porch though he might next chapter on what they were arguing about. Though now we seem to have a better understanding of their character and how they treat big differences. As one interesting point is in that argument Atticus was asking Mr. Tate to observe it from his shoes though it took him a while to realize what Heck Tate meant as he did not step into his shoes right away until he learned what he was implying. Though they are still good people and are very reasonable though their argument provided a nice tidbit of inspection into how Heck Tate in specific dealt with an argument.

An Unexpected Hero

Jem and Scout are out for a Halloween pageant, and Scout is a ham. After embarrassing Mrs. Merriweather onstage, they decide to go home. On their way home, they are suddenly attacked by a man who tries to break Jem's arm, and he tries to choke Scout to death. After they fight, a man comes from behind and stabs the man trying to kill the children. Scout's costume saves her, but Jem is severely hurt. Dr. Reynolds tells Atticus that Jem will live, and Mr. Heck Tate comes to investigate the scene. It was Mr. Bob Ewell, and he is dead. After a few conversation, and Scout's retelling, they find out their savior is Boo Radley, or Mr. Arthur Radley.

Arthur Radley is an interesting character. He prefers the company of children, similar to Mr. Dolphus Raymond's company of blacks. He acts like a child. In a way, he is like Lennie is "Of Mice and Men." He has a mental disability that makes him act like a child. For so many times over the course of the book, Boo Radley has helped the children. He sewed up Jem's pants, he put the blanket over Scout at the fire, and he put the presents in the knothole. Boo just wanted friends, and after he saved Scout and Jem, he finally got some.
