TKAM Chapter 4

In this chapter, Scout was heading home from school, and she spotted two oak trees that were at the edge of the Radley house. The trees had knotholes in them, one of the trees contained two pieces wrapped in tin foil, which seemed to look like gum. Scout went to look at the gum, to see if it had anything in it. Scout started to lick and smell the gum, to see if something was going to happen to her. When nothing happened to her she puts the gum in her mouth, Jem then tells Scout to spit it out because she does not know where it has been. Scout then checks out the other tree to find two Indian heads, which look really creepy to her.
Scout and Jem thought that if Boo Radley had put the Indian heads, and the gum in the tree. I think that Scout and Jem might head into one of Boo Radley's traps, or he just wants to prove that he is nice, and not a creepy old man. In my opinion I think that Boo is an innocent man, people are just ignorant to not know him, and that could be why he does not come out of his house because people will say bad things to him. Do you agree with me or do you not, I think that Boo is a good man, once we get to know him better, or if he would ever come out of his home. If Boo is really a good man, people will probably will feel horrible that they had been so ignorant to not know who he really is, and the rumors that they had spread would be all false.

Normal or Monster?

When Scout hears laughing
In chapter four, we learned that Scout was let out from school before Jem, as she walked home she walked past a tree she finds something. The tree had a hole in it and there laid two pieces of uncovered gum, Scout plops it in her mouth and continues with her day. When Jem got home Scout told Jem that she found uncovered gum on a tree near the school. Jem began to yell at her and say that the gum could be poisoned, Scout does what he says. Almost at the end, of the chapter Jem and Scout return to that same tree, they find a purple box that wedding rings come in with polished Indian head pennies inside of the purple box. Jem said that he would keep it for now and they would try to look for the person that lost the polished pennies. At the end of the chapter Dill, Jem, and Scout play as if they were the Radley family. Scout was Mrs. Radley, Dill was Mr. Radley, and Jem was Boo Radley. They recreate the rumors that were said to be true about Boo Radley, they also recreated the moment where Boo Stabbed Mr. Radley with scissors. In the end, Scout swears that she can hear laughing, she hears that the laughing is coming out of the Radley's house.

I personally think that because of all the rumors that are spread about Boo, it makes him feel bad that so many people think about him like that. I wouldn't want to be in my home knowing that people talk about me and fully sprint when they pass my home. I wouldn't like that feeling, I think that Boo is just a normal guy and that maybe he did have a rough past as a teenager. However, I think that Boo put those gifts in the tree because he wants Scout and Jem to know that he is just a normal guy. Overall, I think that Boo is just a normal guy and he wants people to know that. Do you think that he is some sort of monster? Or do you agree with me? What do you think?

Things Inside of a Tree?

When Scout was heading home from school she spotted two oak trees that stood at the edge of the Radley place. One of the trees contained two pieces of tinfoil which appears to be some kind of chewing gum. Scout was curious and she examined the gum if there were any problems with it. Scout then smelled and licked the gum. When nothing happened to her she assumed it was safe and she put it in her mouth. Jem told Scout to spit the gum out because who knows where the gum has been in. Then Scout examined the other tree which contained Indian heads which was really odd and creepy. Jem and Scout were thinking if Boo Radley had to do anything with the chewing gum and the Indian heads. I am thinking of two possible theories. What if someone else is trying to sneak some weird things in the tree to make people think that Boo Radley is a weird and creepy person. My other theory is Boo Radley trying to lure some children closer to his house so he can kidnap them. In my opinion I think that Boo Radley is an innocent person because there is no proof so far that he did anything wrong. A lot of people are ignorant and wont give Boo Radley a chance.

The new teacher Miss Caroline one day told Burris to go home and bathe because he was so dirty. Burris didn't want to leave and Miss Caroline is wondering what is wrong with him. Scout had to explain why Burris was really rude. Burris was part of the Ewell family which were known as a disgrace in all of Maycomb. The Ewell family would never do anything good in Maycomb and they are all very ignorant. Burris would go to the first day of school and would never come back for the rest of the days. When Miss Caroline told Burris to leave he didn't want too and he insulted her calling her a terrible teacher. In this book people have different point of views and dont understand what is going on in that persons life. I think that there are going to be a lot of issues in this book because of peoples ignorance.

The Beginning of Chapter Four

The beginning of the chapter had started out with them coming home from the last school day of the year. Which means that in a couple of days Dill will be coming to Maycomb to spend the summer with his Aunt Rachel. Jem and especially Scout are excited for Dill to be coming, since they love playing games with him and hanging out with him. When coming home from school Scout had spotted a piece of fresh gum in the tree by the Radley house. She had instantly put it in her mouth and Jem had made her spit it out. They both were kind of confused at why there had been fresh gum in the tree. Personally, I thought it was a bit weird for a couple pieces of gum to be in the middle of a tree.
Scout had gone by the tree after a day and had found Indian
coins. Jem had inspected them and he had found out that the coins were pretty old. It was then the both started wondering if someone was hiding their things in the tree and if it was right for them to take things from the tree and they suspect it could be one of the Radley's, because no kid from school passes the Radley house, except for them and no one would dare to hide their things in a tree in front of the Radley house. I honestly think that Boo Radley or any kid is putting these items in the tree, I think that some sort of animal is doing this, possibly a squirrel or some sort of animal like it. Jem then decides to keep them and when school had come he was going to go around asking if it was one of the students that the coins belonged to. Dill had arrived two days later and they had played with Dill.

Boo and His Tree

At the end of the school year of Scout She found gum in the Radley's place. she picked it up she smelled it she licked it and since she did not die she ate it. When her brother got home he got mad at her because it was at the Radley’s place. She said she founded on the tree so she gave him evidence. Jem Looked closer to the tree and found a box with pennies in it.But it was not a regular Penny it was a Indian head penny. And if you search how much they cost they cost around $1000 to $4000. Also because they were old and very old. it was summer so Dill Came over and ask what they were going to play. he was tired of playing one role so he said if he could play another roll. He told Scout to make a story up. They went to go get an old tire Dill wanted to do first because he just got here but stopped when first. Jem push the tired as hard as he can she was terrified but could not put her hands out to stop it.
I would be very scared to touch a gum from the Radley's place. If I were to hear all of those scary stories about him. But I know that Boo is not like that he wouldn't put poison in his tree. I would have told my mom right away that I Boo’s tree. I would also be bored if I got the same role that was boring over and over again. It looks very fun to get in a tire and roll. But it is also scary because you can go and extremely speed and you won't be able to stop it. if you were to put your hand out it would have been burned by the cement and the speed. So I would like to do that if I was going in tremendous speed. Why are you so ignorant about Boo if you still don't meet him don't talk to him her never seen him. He could just be another nice neighbor. I also didn't understand the beginning of Chapter four and all of those ways you can teach.

Gifts in a Tree?

As Scout was heading home one day, something caught her eye that made her go back to in front of the Radley place. There, there were two live oaks that stood at the edge of the Radley lot. One of the trees had some tinfoil that was sticking in a knot-hole just above her eye level. From the hole, Scout took out two pieces of chewing gum. Before Scout ate the chewing gum, she observed it to make sure that it was not poisonous since it was from a tree that stood at the edge of the Radley lot. She smelled the gum and licked it. When nothing abnormal happened, Scout just ate the gum. Later, Scout took Jem to the tree with her, and they found another thing in the tree. This time, there were valuable Indian-heads.
There are many different ways people can view the repeating situation of Scout finding objects in the tree. Some people may find this situation interesting, and some people may find this situation just weird and creepy. Personally, I find this is situation both interesting and weird and creepy. What Scout found in the tree that stood at the edge of the Radley lot are somewhat normal things such as chewing gum and the Indian-heads. However, it is also unexpected since who would find these things in a tree? What I am thinking right now is if Jem and Scout are right about Boo Radley being this scary person that they have always imagined him to be, this may be his way to lure them closer to the house, so he can capture them and kill or torture them. He may be doing this to lure them closer to the house, so he can set up a trap that can result in him getting payback for when Jem touched his house and possibly disrupted the quietness of it as after all, it was said that Jem and Scout saw a tiny movement from the house after they ran away. If not that, I have no other theories. My head right now is just stuck with the thought that Boo is a bad and scary man who is planning to lure Jem, Scout, and anybody else into his trap just to capture them and do something horrible to them. If not, what could these objects in the tree mean? Is this something Boo is doing to try and capture Jem, Scout, and anybody else to get revenge for when Jem touched his house? Hopefully we will find out soon... Related image

School Has Ended

It is now Summertime for Scout and Jem which means that Dill will be coming over to spend the summer with them. Dill comes to stay with his aunt Miss Rachel in the summer because his mom wants a break from him, which is sad because his father doesn't want to spend time with him either. Dill is a small person but according to scout he grew over the summer. Dill was there to play two days after they got out of school. When Dill arrives and they play for the first time since last summer he says that he no longer wants to play the characters that no one else will play. Dill also claims that he can smell death, he's obviously joking. They also talk about "Hot Steams" which are apparently people who can't get to heaven and if you walk through one on earth, you won't be able to get to heaven either. (Dill doesn't believe them) Scout suggests that they roll the tire which she will soon learn that wasn't a very good decision. Jem was still offended by Scout  because she contradicted him about the Hot Steams.

Scout gets into a crash because Jem pushed her very hard. Scout sees the colors whirl by and she feel her ears throb and she was suffocating. She turned out to be okay even though she felt a little nauseated. I liked this part of the chapter because it shows the sibling relationship that Jem and Scout have. It also shows in the next part where you can see that Jem instantly regrets this because he runs after her chasing and yelling, he was worried that she would get hurt. Meaning that even though they had the fun playful sibling relationship he also cares about her and watches out after her.
