TKAM Chapter 7

In chapter seven, Jem is in a gloomy state of mind, and he is quiet for about a whole week. Scout starts second grade, and says that it is worse than last year in her first grade, and they would still not read and write. All of the students from last year first grade, flunked and had to retake it again. After a whole week of not speaking, Jem tells scout what had happened the night when he went to go get his pants. Jem says that his pants were folded across the fence. Jem said that someone was going to expect him to be there and get the pants. In the knothole of the tree, there was a ball of gray twine, Jme wanted to take it, but Scout says that they should wait a couple of days to see if anyone would come back for it.

She says if no one comes for it, then Jem could take the gray ball of twine with him. When Jem and Scout were going to the knothole in October, they saw that something white was inside it, In the knothole, Scout says that there are two small images carved in soap. The mini figures in the soap are actually Jem and Scout, the picture of the boy looked at Jem, and when Jem looked at the girl-doll, he looked at Scout, and it looked like her. Less than two weeks later, Jem and Scout find a whole package of gum, which they ate. Jem says that they should write a letter to the person that are leaving them these things, Scout thinks it is a good idea. They have wrote a letter to the person, and put it in the knothole tree, the next morning Jem looked in the knothole tree, and told Scout that it was filled with cement. Jem tells Mr. Radley if he was the one to put cement in it, he said yes. Mr Radley did this because the tree was dying. Jem tells Atticus if the tree was dying, Atticus says no.

In my opinion I think that Jem should have not gone back to get his pants from the Radley fence, when they were trying to see Boo. I think that he should have told Atticus what they were doing, so he could not have the feel of guilt and disappointment. I think that if he had told Atticus what he had done, than he would have less the chance of being shot and killed. This is what I think Jem should have done instead of lying to Atticus that they were playing poker. If I was Jem, then I would tell Atticus the truth, and take any beating from him.
