Uncle Jack and Scout

The chapter took place during Christmas. Jem and Francis hated each other and they often fought a lot. Francis kept bugging Scout about her dad being a A.A. lover. Scout couldn't take it anymore and she punched Francis right in the face. Scout wanted to defend Atticus, but he told Scout that he can fight his own battles. Scout was in a really bad mood because Uncle Jack only heard Francis's side of the story and didn't hear scouts. Scout went home without saying goodbye. Uncle Jack then came into Scout's room but she was mad at him. Scout then told Uncle Jack her side of the story and made a promise that he wouldn't tell anyone about what Francis said and how she wanted to defend Atticus. I think that Scout cares about her father so much that she is willing to defend him. Scout doesnt want her family to be looked down upon because Atticus is defending an A.A.

Atticus then started to talk to Uncle Jack about Scout and Jem growing up to be really good. Scout then snuck into the conversation and Atticus started talking about Tom Robinson. Atticus told Uncle Jack that he will make a statement in court about the Ewells so Tom will have a slight chance. Atticus then told Jack that he hopes that Jem and Scout would trust him and come to him for many answers. Atticus then knew that Scout was there and he told her to get to bed. It took a long time for Scout to realize that Atticus wanted Scout to hear everything he said. I think that Atticus wants Jem and Scout to grow up to be of character and integrity and to listen to him. Atticus wants Jem and Scout to be like him with a high moral standard.

  1. I do agree that Scout should be defending Atticus, but Atticus tells her to not get in the crossfire. Also, I think that Jack learned a lot over the Christmas because of the incident. Also, I think that Atticus's parenting is really the best to go about with children; be honest and answer, while keeping all of the terrible stuff out.

  2. I agree with you that Scout cares about Atticus a lot, that she is willing to punch someone for him. Scout cares about her family, and she doesn't want people to say bad things about her father and her family. I also think that Atticus wants Jem and Scout to grow up to have high character and integrity. That is important to him, so it is important that his children do the same.

  3. Good job explaining what happened between Francis and Scout.I agree with you that Scout cares so much about Atticus that she punched Francis so he would stop talking trash about Atticus defending a African American. And I think that Uncle Jack learned something new about children to hear both stories because when Scout punched Francis Jack only heard Francis side and not Scouts.

  4. You did a good job summarizing everything that happened in the chapter. I agree with you when you said that Scout cares a lot about her father. You could tell that Scout cares about Atticus very much since she is willing to punch a kid for him. I also agree with you when you say that Atticus wants Jem and Scout to have high moral standards and be people of character and integrity. Atticus just wants the best for his children, and I do think that he wants his children to be like him, people of character and integrity.
