Uncle Jack comes back to Scout after and apologizes. Scout tells him that he didn't listen to her side of the story which is wrong of him and that Atticus always listens to both sides of her and Jem's stories. Uncle Jack wraps up Scouts hand where she hit her knuckles against Francis's teeth. Uncle Jack Promises that he won't tell Atticus her side of the story further proving that what Atticus thinks if Scout matters very very much to her. Scout tells him that he shouldn't make a big deal out of it to make sure Atticus doesnt find out the true reason they were fighting. Atticus specifically told her to not let anyone get to her and to walk away.
Scout listens into Atticus and Uncle Jack's conversation and she expects uncle Jack to break his promise but surprisingly he doesn't and continues to keep why Scout hit Francis a secret. They start talking about the trial and Atticus suddenly says Scouts name and she jumps. He tells her to go to bed and this little section shows that Atticus really does know a lot more about scout and jems whereabouts then they think he does. He probably already knows that the reason Scout was fighting was because of Atticus's case. Atticus wants Scout to hear every word so she would honor him and not fight anymore because he says he's worried about her. He wants her to have a high moral standard just like him.
Good Job on your summary! It's true that Atticus wants to teach his kids high moral standard and so far he is a doing a good job with that. He is willing to do the right thing even if all the people in Maycomb and his family don't approve with it. it's also true that Scout does not want to disappoint his father and is willing to be called a coward for him. Uncle Jack didn't tell Atticus what really happened because I think he knew how much Scout cared for Atticus. Overall good summary.
ReplyDeleteAtticus knows more than they think and he wants them to tell the truth sometimes and just talk to him. Scout tries to avoid fights and everything people say about her father because she doesn't want to disappoint Atticus. He is worried about his children and he doesn't care about what people say about him because he has that high moral standard. He says to them to keep their head up and ignore what they say about him because he doesn't want them to cause trouble. Good job on your summary and good job saying what Atticus wants for his children.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the summary you had a good understanding on what happened on the chapter. Atticus wants Jem and Scout to have a high moral standard like him. Everyone in Maycomb makes fun of Atticus, but he is doing the right thing. Atticus pulled a clever moved at the end. He knew Scot was there but he wanted her to hear everything he said.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on what you said about Atticus knowing more than he lets on and that he probablly already knows wht Scout was fighting. I also think you are right when ypu say that he wants her to have a high moral standard. She is living up to that by not fighting because she looks up to her father and his morals.
